Workout today: Ran outside 4.5 miles.
I had planned to run a long 6 miles, but sweat got in my eyes and so irritated my contact lenses. I literally couldn't see, so I had to cut the run short. I may need to run with my glasses. I haven't had this problem yet, but it also hasn't been that hot when I ran!!
One of my
Sweat Pink sisters Jen from
Justamomgivingitatri is hosting a blogger book club. Our first book we are reading is Kara Goucher's Running for Women. Each week, Jen asks us to answer a few questions about the book.
Here are my comments regarding chapters 1-3:
Question 1: *Kara talks about "Going Public" about running. If you are new to
running, have you told anyone that you have started? Have you told
people what your goals are at this point?
I started running last November. I kept it on the down low for a few weeks. I had been walking on the treadmill, so I just started running a little bit each workout. I am sure my husband heard the "mill" speeding up, but he never said anything. Then when I signed up to run a 5k and 10k in May, I let my family know because I started running outside. My kids got a big kick out of it. They said they were my official trainers! Now that I have completed these races, running is just what I do in the morning, and everyone just roles with it.
Question 2: *Kara talks about rewarding yourself for your efforts. How do you reward yourself for a great week or a really hard workout?
I don't have any specific rewards each week. I went shopping for clothes yesterday, and I liked the way they fit, etc... I guess that would be a reward. We splurge on pizza and ice cream once a week, so I will count that as a reward!!
Question 3: Have you ever run barefoot? I have run barefoot on a beach, but it was shorter than a mile. It was tough!!
Question 4: Have you chose the tougher option lately??
Just this morning, I went full force up a hill that I normally just jog slow or walk. Mentally I was up for the sprint. However, I felt terrible at the top. I could barely breathe!!! This may be a situation where taking the tough route wasn't so good!! I think if you train with a group, you are more apt to try some harder things. Peer pressure and all!!
Question 5: Are you using strength training to build up your bones and muscles? I have been trying to do some weights twice a week. I even got my 8 year old in on the act. He lifted soup cans!!! That was a riot. I do believe that lifting weights will help in your running for sure.
One question I have: What do you think of the Ask Kara questions??? Sometimes I really have to laugh at the topic ie: "some older women have wrinkly faces. Does running cause this??"
Or: There is a really cute guy in my group who I am faster than. What should I do??
It may be that I am not the demographic for this book (44 yr. old gal), but these sort of questions really seemed quite juvenile.
So those are my answers to this weeks questions. I am finding this book to be an easy reader. I like that part of it. I can pick it up and read a few pages here and there. It is not a book that I have to remember where I left off.
Have a great Day!!
